Retinal scars, atrophy, or irregularities (DC 6011)

Body system: EyeRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.79

Retinal scars, atrophy, or irregularities (Diagnostic Code 6011) covers damage to the retina - the light-sensitive tissue at the back of your eye that's crucial for vision. The VA only rates this condition at 10% when the scarring or damage is located in the central part of your retina and causes vision problems like seeing double images, enlarged images, or distorted shapes. This is considered a relatively low rating because it focuses on localized damage rather than widespread retinal problems.

Rating levels

  • 10% — You qualify for this rating if you have scars, tissue damage, or irregular areas on the retina (the light-sensitive layer at the back of your eye) that are located in the central part of your vision. These retinal problems must cause you to see images that appear irregular, doubled, larger than normal, or smaller than normal. This can affect one or both eyes.
