BVA Decision Search
Full-Text BVA Decision Search Tool for 820,000+ VA Appeals Cases is a powerful research platform that allows veterans, advocates, and accredited representatives to search the complete text of more than 800,000 Board of Veterans' Appeals decisions spanning decades of VA rulings. Unlike summaries or limited datasets, this tool provides direct full-text search access to real BVA decisions, enabling users to explore how the Board has ruled on specific conditions, diagnostic codes, evidence types, judges, and appeal outcomes in actual cases. Built from a structured dataset of over 800,000 published decisions, this resource helps identify patterns in grants and denials, understand how evidence is weighed under 38 CFR Part 4, and see how similar claims have been decided at the appellate level. Whether you are researching a denial, preparing an appeal strategy, or studying how the VA evaluates disability claims, this tool gives you direct access to the largest publicly indexed collection of BVA decisions in a searchable format.
Note: pre-AMA decisions (before February 2019) follow the legacy appeals system and may not reflect current procedural rules. The index holds 1,337,474 legacy decisions and 319,448 from the modern AMA system (2019 and later). Use the year filter to scope results.
A free account is required to search our BVA Decision database, and here's why.
This is not a personal information grab. Board decisions are public, and searching all 829,000+ of them stays free forever. We ask for a free account for one reason: a login lets us stop automated bots from scraping and overloading the search index, so it stays fast and free for veterans. An account ties each search to a person, not to endless anonymous bots scraping data and slowing the site down.
- Use Google, Apple, or an email and password. With Google or Apple, we only get your name and email, never a password.
- We never sell, rent, or share your data with anyone.
- We do not track you across other websites.
- Your searches stay private to your account.
- You can delete your account and all of your data at any time.
VA rules change. Decisions from twenty years ago may not reflect today's law.
Disclaimer: BVA decisions are not binding precedent; each appeal is decided on its own facts and evidence. Use this tool for research and pattern-spotting, not as legal advice. For your own claim, work with a VA-accredited representative.
