Malignant neoplasms of the eye, orbit, and adnexa (DC 6014)

Body system: EyeRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.79DBQ: DBQ OPHTH Eyes

This covers cancerous tumors in your eye, the socket around your eye (orbit), or nearby structures like your eyelids - but not skin cancers. The VA gives a 100% disability rating only when your cancer requires serious treatment like full-body chemotherapy, radiation beyond just the eye area, or surgery more complex than removing the entire eyeball. This is an all-or-nothing rating - you either get 100% if you need intensive treatment, or the VA rates your condition under a different code based on what vision or other problems remain after treatment.

Rating levels

  • 100% — You qualify for this rating if you have cancer of the eye or the area around the eye that requires major treatment similar to what's used for cancer that has spread throughout the body. This includes receiving chemotherapy that affects your whole system, radiation therapy that goes beyond just the eye area, or surgery that's more extensive than removing the entire eyeball (enucleation). The cancer must be serious enough to need these intensive treatments rather than just local procedures limited to the eye itself.
