Ectropion (DC 6020)

Body system: EyeRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.79

Ectropion is when your lower eyelid turns outward, pulling away from your eye instead of lying flat against it. This creates a droopy, sagging appearance and can cause your eye to water constantly or feel dry and irritated. The VA rates this condition at 10% if it affects one eye or 20% if both eyes are affected - it's a straightforward rating with no in-between percentages.

Rating levels

  • 20% — You have ectropion (a condition where the eyelid turns outward, exposing the inner surface) affecting both of your eyes. This means the lower eyelids of both eyes droop away from the eyeball, which can cause tearing, dryness, irritation, and increased risk of eye infections.
  • 10% — You qualify for this rating if you have ectropion (a condition where your eyelid turns outward, causing the inner surface to be exposed) affecting only one eye. The eyelid droops or rolls away from your eyeball, which can cause tearing, irritation, and difficulty closing that eye completely.
