Disorders of the lacrimal apparatus (DC 6025)

Body system: EyeRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.79DBQ: DBQ OPHTH Eyes

This diagnostic code covers problems with your tear ducts and the parts of your eye that make and drain tears. When these don't work properly, you might have constant watery eyes (epiphora) or infections in your tear ducts (dacryocystitis). The VA rates this condition at 10% if it affects one eye or 20% if both eyes are involved - pretty straightforward compared to other eye conditions.

Rating levels

  • 20% — You qualify for this rating when you have tear duct problems (like constantly watery eyes or infected tear ducts) affecting both eyes. The condition must be present in your left eye AND your right eye, not just one side.
  • 10% — You qualify for this rating if you have a tear duct disorder (like constant tearing, blocked tear ducts, or tear duct infections) that affects only one eye. The condition must be affecting your lacrimal apparatus (the parts of your eye that produce and drain tears) on just one side, not both eyes.
