No more than light perception in both eyes (DC 6062)

Body system: EyeRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.79

This diagnostic code covers the most severe level of vision loss, where you can only detect light but cannot see shapes, movement, or any visual details in both eyes. This is also called legal blindness at its most severe level. The VA rates this condition at 100% disability, recognizing that this level of vision loss severely impacts your ability to work and perform daily activities independently.

Rating levels

  • 100% — You are essentially blind in both eyes, able to detect only whether a light is on or off, but cannot see shapes, movement, or any details. This means you cannot read, recognize faces, navigate safely, or perform any tasks that require vision. Your vision is so severely impaired that you can only sense the difference between light and darkness.
