The VA rates total loss of smell at 10%, which means you'd receive monthly compensation for this condition. This is a straightforward rating - either you've completely lost your sense of smell (10%) or you haven't (0%). There's no partial rating for reduced smell under this specific code.

Rating levels

  • 10% — You cannot smell anything at all - no food aromas, perfumes, smoke, or any other scents. This complete absence of your sense of smell (called anosmia) must be total, meaning you have zero ability to detect any odors whatsoever.
