Aneurysm, any large artery (DC 7111)

Body system: Cardiovascular SystemRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.104

An aneurysm is a dangerous bulge or weakness in the wall of a large artery that can burst and cause life-threatening bleeding. The VA rates aneurysms of any large artery at 100% disability if you have any symptoms at all, or automatically gives you 100% from the time a doctor recommends surgery through six months after you're discharged from the hospital following the surgical repair. This recognizes that aneurysms are serious, life-threatening conditions that significantly impact your ability to work and function normally.

Rating levels

  • 100% — You qualify for this rating if your aneurysm (a dangerous bulge in a major blood vessel) causes any symptoms that affect your daily life. You also qualify during the entire period from when a doctor first recommends surgery to fix the aneurysm through six months after you're discharged from the hospital following that surgery.
