Body system: Digestive SystemRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.114DBQ: DBQ GI Gallbladder & Pancreas

Cholelithiasis is the medical term for gallstones - hardened deposits that form in your gallbladder and can cause pain, nausea, and digestive problems. The VA doesn't rate this condition under its own code, but instead uses the rating criteria for chronic biliary tract disease (code 7314). This means your rating will be based on how your gallbladder problems affect your overall digestive system, with potential ratings of 10%, 30%, or 60% depending on severity.

Rating levels

  • -1% — Cholelithiasis is the formation of gallstones in the gallbladder; chronic cholelithiasis means recurring or persistent stones with symptoms. The VA rates it using the criteria for chronic cholecystitis (DC 7314) under 38 CFR § 4.114.
