Pruritus ani (DC 7337)

Body system: Digestive SystemRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.114DBQ: DBQ GI Rectum & Anus

Pruritus ani is persistent itching around the anal area that can be caused by various conditions like hemorrhoids, skin disorders, or digestive issues. The VA rates this condition at either 10% if there's bleeding or excoriation (scratched, broken skin from itching), or 0% if there's just itching without these complications. A 10% rating provides monthly compensation, while a 0% rating establishes service connection without compensation but protects you for future worsening.

Rating levels

  • 10% — You qualify for this rating if your anal itching condition causes bleeding or excoriation (scratching that damages the skin and creates open wounds or sores). The itching must be severe enough that scratching leads to visible skin damage or bleeding in the anal area.
  • 0% — You have anal itching that doesn't cause bleeding or skin damage from scratching (excoriation means scratched or scraped skin). The itching is present but mild enough that you're not scratching so hard that it breaks the skin or causes open wounds in the area.
