Pancreas transplant (DC 7352)

Body system: Digestive SystemRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.114

A pancreas transplant is a surgical procedure where a healthy pancreas from a donor replaces your damaged pancreas, usually done for severe diabetes or pancreatic disease. The VA automatically rates this at 100% disability from the day you're admitted to the hospital for the transplant surgery, and this rating continues indefinitely. After the transplant, you'll never receive less than a 30% rating for this condition, recognizing the ongoing impact and lifelong medical needs.

Rating levels

  • 100% — If you receive a liver transplant, you automatically qualify for this rating starting from the day you're admitted to the hospital for the transplant surgery. This rating continues indefinitely without a set end date, recognizing that liver transplant is a major, life-changing surgery that requires ongoing medical care and significantly impacts your daily functioning.
  • 30% — If you've had a pancreas transplant, you automatically qualify for this rating as the minimum level. The VA recognizes that having a pancreas transplant (surgical replacement of your pancreas with a donor organ) is a significant medical condition that requires ongoing medical care and monitoring, regardless of how well you're currently doing.
