Uterus, removal of, including corpus (DC 7618)

Body system: Gynecological ConditionsRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.116DBQ: DBQ GYN Gynecological

DC 7618 covers surgical removal of the uterus including the corpus — total or supracervical hysterectomy with the ovaries preserved. The VA assigns a 100% convalescent rating for three months from the date of surgery, then a permanent 30% rating thereafter. Because the ovaries remain intact, hormonal function is preserved and SMC-K does not apply. If both ovaries are also removed, DC 7617 applies instead (50% permanent + SMC-K). Indications include uterine fibroids, adenomyosis, severe abnormal uterine bleeding, uterine prolapse, and early-stage uterine pathology.

Rating levels

  • 100% — You qualify for 100% for three months after removal of the uterus including the corpus (total or supracervical hysterectomy, ovaries retained). This convalescent rating is automatic and runs from the date of surgery.
  • 30% — You qualify for 30% beginning the day after the three-month convalescent period ends. This is a fixed, permanent rating for removal of the uterus including corpus with ovaries preserved — no further reduction. Because the ovaries remain functional, SMC-K does not apply.
