Radius and ulna, nonunion of, with flail false joint (DC 5210)

This condition involves a complete failure of broken radius and ulna bones (the two bones in your forearm) to heal properly, creating what's called a 'flail false joint' - essentially a loose, unstable connection where solid bone should be. The VA rates this specific condition at a fixed 40% disability rating. This rating reflects the significant functional limitations and instability that come with having bones that never properly fused back together after a fracture.

Rating levels

  • 50% — Nonunion of both forearm bones with a flail false joint is rated 50% on the dominant side and 40% on the non-dominant side.
  • 40% — Nonunion of both forearm bones with a flail false joint is rated 40% on the non-dominant side.
