Weak foot, bilateral (DC 5277)

Body system: Musculoskeletal SystemRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.71aDBQ: DBQ MUSC Foot Conditions including flatfoot (pes planus)

Diagnostic Code 5277 covers bilateral weak foot, which means weakness in both feet that affects your ability to walk, stand, or bear weight properly. The VA rates this condition with a minimum 10% rating, but the actual rating depends on the underlying cause of your foot weakness. The VA will evaluate whatever specific condition is causing your weak feet (like nerve damage, muscle problems, or joint issues) and rate that primary condition instead.

Rating levels

  • 10% — The VA will evaluate whatever specific foot condition is causing your weakness, such as flat feet, arthritis, or nerve damage, rather than just rating the weakness itself. This is the minimum rating you can receive for a foot condition that causes bilateral weakness, meaning you'll get at least this rating even if your symptoms might otherwise qualify for a lower rating or no rating at all.
