Body system: EarRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.87

Diagnostic Code 6209 covers non-cancerous growths or tumors in your ear (but not on the skin). The VA doesn't have specific percentage ratings for this condition - instead, they rate it based on how much it affects your hearing or other ear functions. Your rating will depend on whether the growth causes hearing loss, balance problems, or other complications that impact your daily life.

Rating levels

  • -1% — Benign (non-cancerous) growths of the ear other than skin-only growths are not assigned a percentage on their own. The VA rates the resulting hearing loss under 38 CFR § 4.85, and any vestibular (balance) effects under DC 6204 or visible disfigurement under DC 7800, per 38 CFR § 4.87.
