Lymphatic filariasis is a tropical disease caused by parasitic worms that damage your lymphatic system, which helps fight infection and drain fluid from tissues. Elephantiasis is the severe form where body parts (usually legs, arms, or genitals) become extremely swollen. The VA rates this from 0% to 100% based on whether the disease is still active and what symptoms you're experiencing, with higher ratings for active disease or severe complications like nerve damage, mental symptoms, and physical weakness.

Rating levels

The VA rates the residuals — lymphedema, recurrent skin infections, and functional limitation of the affected body part — under 38 CFR § 4.88b.
