Body system: Respiratory SystemRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.97

A total laryngectomy means the entire voice box (larynx) has been surgically removed, usually due to cancer or severe trauma. The VA doesn't actually rate under this specific code - instead, they rate the ongoing problems that result from having your larynx removed. These complications get rated under other codes like chronic laryngitis, complete voice loss, or narrowing of the throat opening.
