VA Disability Rating for Myositis (DC 5021)

Body system: Musculoskeletal SystemRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.71a

Myositis is inflammation of your muscles that causes pain, weakness, and sometimes swelling. Diagnostic Code 5021 does not have its own separate rating table. Under 38 CFR 4.71a, myositis is rated as degenerative arthritis (DC 5003), based on the limitation of motion in the affected joint or muscle group. Your rating will depend on how much movement you've lost in that area, or on painful motion if limitation of motion alone isn't enough to reach a compensable rating.
