Loss of use of both feet (DC 5110)

Body system: Musculoskeletal SystemRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.71a

Diagnostic Code 5110 covers the complete loss of use of both feet, which the VA treats the same as if both feet were amputated. This is one of the most severe lower extremity disabilities, and the VA assigns a fixed 40% disability rating for this condition. The rating reflects significant functional impairment that affects your ability to walk, work, and perform daily activities, though you may be eligible for additional benefits like Special Monthly Compensation depending on your overall disability picture.

Rating levels

  • 100% — You cannot use both of your feet for their normal functions like walking, standing, or balancing. This means both feet are completely non-functional due to injury, disease, or amputation, leaving you unable to bear weight or perform any meaningful foot movements that would allow you to walk or stand normally.
