VA Disability Rating for Arm, amputation of, below insertion of deltoid (DC 5122)

DC 5122 covers amputation of the arm below the insertion of the deltoid muscle (upper arm). The VA rates it at 80% on the dominant (major) side and 70% on the non-dominant (minor) side under 38 CFR 4.71a. This is an amputation code; loss of use of the hand without amputation is rated under DC 5125.

Rating levels

  • 80% — Amputation of the arm below the deltoid insertion is rated 80% on the dominant side and 70% on the non-dominant side per 38 CFR §4.71a.
  • 70% — Amputation of the arm below the deltoid insertion is rated 80% on the dominant side and 70% on the non-dominant side per 38 CFR §4.71a.
