Amputation of the forearm above the insertion of the pronator teres is rated under DC 5123 at 80% for the dominant (major) arm and 70% for the non-dominant (minor) arm, because the VA rates the dominant side higher.

Rating levels

  • 80% — Amputation of the forearm above the pronator teres insertion (a below-elbow amputation through the upper part of the forearm) is rated 80% on the dominant side and 70% on the non-dominant side per 38 CFR §4.71a.
  • 70% — Amputation of the forearm above the pronator teres insertion (a below-elbow amputation through the upper part of the forearm) is rated 80% on the dominant side and 70% on the non-dominant side per 38 CFR §4.71a.
