Below insertion of pronator teres (DC 5124)

Body system: Musculoskeletal SystemRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.71aDBQ: DBQ MUSC Amputations

Diagnostic Code 5124 covers amputations or complete loss of use of your forearm below where the pronator teres muscle attaches (roughly the middle of your forearm). This is a fixed-percentage rating based on which specific part of your arm is affected - you'll either have the amputation/loss of use or you won't. The VA doesn't use percentage levels for this condition; instead, they assign a set rating percentage based on the exact location and extent of your amputation or loss of function, following the amputation schedule in 38 CFR § 4.71a.

Rating levels

  • 70% — Amputation of the forearm below the pronator teres insertion (below-elbow amputation) is rated 70% on the dominant side and 60% on the non-dominant side per 38 CFR §4.71a.
  • 60% — Amputation of the forearm below the pronator teres insertion (below-elbow amputation) is rated 70% on the dominant side and 60% on the non-dominant side per 38 CFR §4.71a.
