VA Disability Rating for Middle or lower thirds (DC 5162)

Diagnostic Code 5162 covers amputation of the leg through the thigh, in the middle third or the lower third of the thigh. This is an above-the-knee amputation that is not in the upper third of the thigh nearest the hip (that level is DC 5161). The VA rates this at 60%. The rating schedule also marks this code as entitled to special monthly compensation, which is paid in addition to the rating.

Rating levels

  • 60% — Your leg has been amputated through the thigh, in the middle third or the lower third of the thigh. That means above the knee, but not in the upper third closest to the hip. This amputation level is rated 60%.
