Hyperhidrosis (DC 7832)

Body system: SkinRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.118DBQ: DBQ DERM Skin Diseases

Hyperhidrosis is a condition where you sweat excessively, far more than what's normal for temperature control. The VA only gives two ratings for this condition: 30% if the excessive sweating makes it impossible to handle paper or tools even after trying treatments, or 0% if you can handle these items after receiving therapy. This is an all-or-nothing rating system based on how much the sweating interferes with your ability to function at work or daily tasks.

Rating levels

  • 30% — Your hands sweat so much that you cannot handle paper (it gets too wet and tears) or use tools properly because they slip from your grip. The excessive sweating does not improve even when you try medical treatments like prescription antiperspirants, medications, or other therapies your doctor recommends.
  • 0% — You can handle paper documents and work tools normally after receiving treatment for your excessive sweating condition. Your hyperhidrosis (condition causing abnormally heavy sweating) may still be present, but with proper therapy or treatment, it doesn't interfere with your ability to grip, hold, or manipulate everyday items like paperwork, pens, or work equipment.
