VA Disability Rating for Bursitis (DC 5019)

Body system: Musculoskeletal SystemRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.71a

Bursitis is inflammation of the small fluid-filled sacs (bursae) that cushion your joints, causing pain and swelling. Diagnostic Code 5019 does not have its own separate rating table. Under 38 CFR 4.71a, bursitis is rated as degenerative arthritis (DC 5003), based on the limitation of motion in the specific joint it affects. Your rating will depend on how much movement you've lost in that joint, or on painful motion if limitation of motion alone isn't enough to reach a compensable rating.
