Diagnostic Code 5024 covers tendon conditions like tenosynovitis (inflamed tendon sheaths), tendinitis (inflamed tendons), and tendinosis (chronic tendon degeneration). The VA doesn't rate these conditions directly under this code - instead, they evaluate them as degenerative arthritis based on how much your range of motion is limited in the affected joints. This means your rating percentage will depend on how stiff or restricted your movement has become in the joints connected to the affected tendons.

Rating levels

  • -1% — Tenosynovitis, tendinitis, tendinosis, and tendinopathy are conditions of inflammation or degeneration affecting tendons and their sheaths. The VA rates them under 38 CFR § 4.71a based on the limitation of motion of the affected joint, using analogous codes; a minimum 10% rating applies with imaging-confirmed involvement and limitation of motion.
