Ring or little finger, limitation of motion (DC 5230)

Body system: Musculoskeletal SystemRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.71a

This diagnostic code covers limited movement in your ring finger or little finger due to injury or disease. The VA rates this condition based on how much your finger can move - whether you can bend it at the joints, make a fist, or use it for gripping and fine motor tasks. Ratings range from 0% (some limitation) up to 20% for severe cases where the finger is essentially non-functional, with most veterans receiving ratings between 0-10% depending on which finger is affected and how much movement is lost.

Rating levels

  • 0% — You qualify if you have any amount of limited movement in your ring finger or little finger compared to normal. This includes being unable to fully bend, straighten, or move your finger in any direction, even if the limitation is minor. Any measurable restriction in your finger's range of motion counts for this rating.
