Neoplasm, benign, any specified part of the endocrine system (DC 7915)

Body system: Endocrine SystemRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.119

DC 7915 covers benign (non-cancerous) tumors in any part of the endocrine system, the glands that produce hormones (thyroid, parathyroid, adrenals, pituitary, pancreas, ovaries, testes). DC 7915 itself has no rating ladder. The rating is based on residual endocrine dysfunction caused by the tumor (or by its surgical removal), evaluated under the diagnostic code for the affected gland in 38 CFR § 4.119, for example, hyperthyroidism (DC 7900), hypothyroidism (DC 7903), hyperparathyroidism (DC 7904), hypoparathyroidism (DC 7905), Cushing's syndrome (DC 7907), acromegaly (DC 7908), diabetes insipidus (DC 7909), or Addison's disease (DC 7911). If there is no residual endocrine dysfunction, there is no compensable rating under DC 7915.

Rating levels

  • -1% — A benign endocrine tumor is rated only by what it left behind, the hormonal abnormality or other endocrine dysfunction caused by the tumor itself or by the surgery, radiation, or other treatment used to remove it. The rating is assigned under the diagnostic code for the affected gland in 38 CFR § 4.119 (for example, DC 7903 if the residual is hypothyroidism, DC 7911 if the residual is Addison's disease, DC 7909 if the residual is diabetes insipidus). If the tumor was removed and hormone levels returned to normal with no ongoing dysfunction, there is no compensable rating under DC 7915.
