VA Disability Rating for Thyroid enlargement, toxic (DC 7901)

Diagnostic Code 7901 covers toxic thyroid enlargement: an enlarged thyroid gland (goiter) that is overactive and produces too much thyroid hormone. This code has no rating ladder of its own. The symptoms of hyperthyroidism are evaluated under DC 7900 (hyperthyroidism, including Graves' disease). If the enlargement also causes disfigurement of the neck, that is evaluated separately under DC 7800.

Rating levels

  • Note — Toxic thyroid enlargement is a goiter that produces excess thyroid hormone. The VA evaluates the symptoms of the overactive thyroid under DC 7900 (hyperthyroidism, including Graves' disease). If the enlarged thyroid also disfigures the neck, the disfigurement is evaluated separately under DC 7800.
