Paramyoclonus multiplex (DC 8104)

Body system: Neurological Conditions and Convulsive DisordersRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.124a

Paramyoclonus multiplex is a neurological condition that causes sudden, involuntary muscle jerks (called myoclonus) throughout different parts of your body. The VA rates this condition by cross-referencing it to Diagnostic Code 8103 for tics, meaning you'll be evaluated based on how severe your muscle jerking and movement symptoms are. The rating can go up to 60% for severe cases where the involuntary movements significantly interfere with your daily activities and work.

Rating levels

  • 60% — For paramyoclonus multiplex at this rating level, the VA evaluates it the same way they would rate a severe tic disorder or convulsive condition. This means you have frequent, involuntary muscle jerks or spasms (myoclonic movements) that significantly interfere with your daily activities and functioning, representing a severe case of this neurological condition.
