Paralysis of internal saphenous nerve (DC 8527)

Body system: Neurological Conditions and Convulsive DisordersRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.124a

Diagnostic Code 8527 covers paralysis of muscles, which means partial or complete loss of movement and function in affected muscle groups due to nerve damage or neurological conditions. The VA rates this condition at either 0% for mild to moderate paralysis (where you still have some movement and function) or 10% for severe to complete paralysis (where movement is severely limited or completely absent). This is a pretty narrow rating range compared to other conditions, so the VA focuses mainly on whether your paralysis significantly impacts your daily functioning.

Rating levels

  • 10% — Your paralysis is either severe (very significant loss of movement and function) or complete (total loss of movement and function) in the affected body part. This means you have little to no ability to move or control the paralyzed area, significantly impacting your daily activities and quality of life.
  • 0% — You have paralysis that causes only mild to moderate problems with movement and function. This means you may have some weakness, reduced coordination, or difficulty with certain movements, but you can still perform most daily activities and basic functions. The paralysis noticeably affects you but doesn't severely limit your ability to work or take care of yourself.
