Paralysis of ilio-inguinal nerve (DC 8530)

Body system: Neurological Conditions and Convulsive DisordersRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.124a

This diagnostic code covers paralysis of specific muscles or muscle groups, which means partial or complete loss of movement and strength in those areas. The VA rates this condition at either 0% for mild to moderate paralysis (where you still have some movement or function) or 10% for severe to complete paralysis (where movement is mostly or entirely lost). The rating depends on how much the paralysis actually affects your daily activities and functioning.

Rating levels

  • 10% — You have paralysis that is either severe (very limited movement and strength) or complete (no movement at all) in the affected body part. This means you cannot move or have extremely limited ability to move muscles in that area, whether it's an arm, leg, or other body part. The paralysis significantly impacts your ability to use that part of your body for normal daily activities.
  • 0% — Mild paralysis means you have some weakness or reduced movement in the affected area, but you can still move and use that part of your body to some degree. Moderate paralysis involves more significant weakness where movement is noticeably limited and you may have trouble performing certain tasks, but you haven't completely lost all function. You still retain some voluntary muscle control and sensation in the affected area.
