Neuralgia of posterior tibial nerve (DC 8725)

Body system: Neurological Conditions and Convulsive DisordersRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.124a

Neuralgia is nerve pain that can affect different parts of your body, but this specific code covers nerve damage in your foot. The VA rates this condition based on how severely it affects your foot's function, treating it the same way they would rate paralysis. A 30% rating means complete loss of function with severe pain, 20% is for severe cases, and 10% is for mild cases where you still have some foot function.

Rating levels

  • 10% — Under 38 CFR §4.124a, neuralgia of the posterior tibial nerve is rated by reference to the paralysis tiers for the same nerve, up to a maximum of moderate incomplete paralysis. Tic douloureux of the trigeminal nerve is an exception and may be rated up to complete paralysis per the schedule note.
