BVA Appeal Outcomes by Condition

Understanding the Data
SC (Service Connection) — Was the veteran's condition connected to their military service? These are appeals where the VA initially denied that the condition is service-related.
IR (Increased Rating) — The veteran is already service-connected but believes their rating percentage is too low. These are appeals for a higher disability rating.
Wait (months) — The median time from filing a Board appeal to receiving a decision for this condition.
Hearing vs No Hearing — Veterans choose whether to speak directly to a BVA judge. The "Hearing %" column shows grant rates for those who did. The difference tells you whether a hearing is worth requesting for your condition.
All data from RateMyVSO analysis of 180,767 BVA decisions (2023-2026). These are appeal-level outcomes — initial claim results may differ.
