Body system: Neurological Conditions and Convulsive DisordersRegulation: 38 CFR § 4.124a
Neuritis is inflammation of one or more nerves that can cause pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness. The VA rates neuritis using the same scale as paralysis conditions, recognizing that nerve inflammation can be just as disabling. Ratings range from 20% for mild cases with minor symptoms to 80% for complete loss of function, based on how much the nerve inflammation affects your ability to move or feel in the affected area.
Rating levels
- 70% — Under 38 CFR §4.124a, neuritis of the all radicular groups is rated by reference to the paralysis tiers for the same nerve. Without organic changes (muscle atrophy, loss of reflexes, sensory disturbances), the maximum rating is moderate incomplete paralysis. With demonstrable organic changes, severe incomplete paralysis applies; complete paralysis is rated under the 85-series paralysis code for this nerve.
