Neuritis is inflammation of the nerves, and under this diagnostic code, the VA rates it based on how severely it affects the muscles in your foot. The VA looks at whether you have complete paralysis (inability to move) of your foot muscles (30%), severe paralysis (20%), or mild paralysis (10%). This condition can cause painful sensations, weakness in moving your toes and foot, and difficulty with normal foot functions like flexing your toes or pushing off when you walk.
Rating levels
- 20% — Under 38 CFR §4.124a, neuritis of the posterior tibial nerve is rated by reference to the paralysis tiers for the same nerve. Without organic changes (muscle atrophy, loss of reflexes, sensory disturbances), the maximum rating is moderate incomplete paralysis. With demonstrable organic changes, severe incomplete paralysis applies; complete paralysis is rated under the 85-series paralysis code for this nerve.
